It sends ultrasonic pressure waves through the water in the tank. Those waves form microscopic bubbles and collapse them again, thousands of times a second, everywhere the water reaches — including grooves, seams and textured areas that a brush is too wide to get into.

No. There are no brushes and no moving parts inside the tank. The appliance sits in water and the water does the work, which is why there is nothing to scratch or wear down.

Most people run it while they are doing something else — brushing their teeth, or getting ready for bed. Fill it, drop the appliance in, start it, and come back.

The pod is made for retainers, clear aligners, night guards, mouth guards and dentures. What we will not do is tell you a specific appliance is safe in an ultrasonic tank without having checked — so if yours has bonded wire, a soft lining, or anything your provider was careful about, ask them first.

Some are worth asking about, and we would rather say so than guess. Follow the care guidance from whoever made your appliance. If they advise against ultrasonic cleaning, follow their advice rather than ours.

A brush handles flat, open surfaces well. It has a harder time with textured and recessed areas where buildup collects, and stiff bristles can scratch softer materials over time. Ultrasonic cleaning is contact-free, so nothing abrades the surface.

No. The pod works with plain water — the mechanical action is the device's, not the tablet's. The tablets add the chemistry, which is the half water on its own does not do.

Tablets work chemically. They need time to dissolve, and they only act where the solution actually reaches. Ultrasonic cleaning adds mechanical action: sound waves form and collapse microscopic bubbles against the surface, including the grooves and seams a still soak tends to miss. Most people get the best result using both together.

Anything meant for soaking a dental appliance in water will dissolve the same way. Check what the tablet's own maker says about ultrasonic cleaners before you use one in the tank.

Cleaning devices for dental appliances are generally eligible medical expenses. You can pay with your benefits card at checkout, or pay as normal and submit the receipt for reimbursement.

Eligibility is determined by your plan administrator rather than by us, so check with them if you are unsure. We cannot guarantee reimbursement.

Whichever delivery schedule you chose when you subscribed. It is shown on the tablets' product page beside each option, and again on the subscription in your account.

Yes, from your account. Skipping moves one delivery on; pausing stops them until you start again. Neither cancels the subscription.

Sign in to your account, open Subscriptions, choose the one you want to stop, and choose Cancel subscription. It stops there and then, and nothing else about your account changes. Signing in sends a six-digit code to the email address you ordered with — there is no password to remember.
